The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has named Mr Chukwuma Soludo as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State.
he drama that started at INEC on July 16, 2021 leading to the publishing of Chukwuma Umeoji’s name in place of Prof. Soludo came to an end today as the commission complied with court judgement.
This was contained in a press statement by the commission and signed by, Voter Education and Publicity, Festus Okoye, on Thursday.
The commission said that after its executive Committee meeting, it was unanimously resolved that the name of Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo and Dr. Onyekachikwu Gilbert Ibezim be published as the governorship and deputy governorship candidates of APGA respectively.
According to him, the timetable and schedule of activities approved by INEC on January 18 provide for the withdrawal and substitution of candidates in line with Section 35 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).
Okoye stated that by the deadline of July 30 fixed by the commission, seven governorship and 11 deputy governorship candidates were substituted by 11 out of the 18 political parties.
Speaking about the recognition of Soludo, he said, “The commission was served with the judgement of the Court of Appeal (Kano Division) which set aside the judgement of the High Court of Jigawa State on the leadership of APGA and the nomination of its candidates for the Anambra Governorship election.
The commission has already removed Chukwuma Umeoji and Irogbu’s names from its portal as candidates of APGA.
It could be recalled that Court of Appeal, Kano on Wednesday, August 10, 2021 entered judgment in favour of Dr. Victor Ike Oye as APGA National Chairman and Prof. Soludo as its governorship candidate.
