The Federal Government has extended the registration of National Identification Number (NIN) and Subscribers Identity Module (SIM) linkage by more eight weeks with new date on April 6, 2021.
The Minister of Communications, Isa Patami says the extension is to give Nigerians and legal residents more time to integrate their NIN with the SIM.
It can be recalled that on December 15, 2020, the Federal Government had declared that after December 30, 2020, all SIMs that were not registered with valid NIN on the network of telecommunications companies would be blocked.
The former deadline was January 19, 2021 for subscribers with NIN, and February 9 for subscribers without NIN.
The registration which saw a huge gathering of crowd at the NIMC offices nationwide, has sparked up many controversies from different quarters following the surge in coronavirus cases in the country and violations of COVID-19 safety protocols at the registration centres.
