The incumbent Governor of Ondo State and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Rotimi Akeredolu, spike into an early lead at 2:30am on Sunday after results from 12 of the 18 local councils were announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission from the state’s Governorship election held on Saturday.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, flag-bearer won nine of the 12 councils with 178,854 while his closest challenger, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, won three with 141,083
Another major contender, the State’s Deputy Governor and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Agboola Ajayi, had recorded 32,060 votes.
The INEC officials are expected to reconvene by 9 am on Sunday to announce the results from the remaining six local governments and, subsequently, the eventual winner of the election.
