The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has lifted the sanction imposed on Mali after the President of the country, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita was removed by the Military in August 2020.

In a statement signed by the new ECOWAS Chairman, President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, ECOWAS said heads of state have decided to lift the sanction, call on bilateral partners to resume support to Mali.

However, after Mali fulfilled ECOWAS obligations by appointing a civilian leader, the organization decided to lift the sanctions.
