A 40 year old woman, Rita Oti popularly known as Mama G, has been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command for an alleged trafficking of six ladies aged between 16 and 24 years.
According to the statement by Nasarawa State Police Spokesman, ASP. Ramhan Nansel, Mrs Oti was arrested along Nasarawa Eggon in Nasarawa while conveying the ladies from Makurdi in Benue state to Alagbado area of Lagos State in Volkswagen Sharan vehicle driven by one Godwin Yaasa aged 35years of Benue State origin.
Mr Nansel Stated that upon interrogation Mrs. Oti who hails from Ebonyi State, on the pretext of giving the victims job, criminally lured Blessing Williams ‘female’ aged 16yrs, Mercy Agidi ‘female’ aged 17yrs, Jennifer Shummaver ‘female’ aged 24yrs, Catherine Moses ‘female’ aged 23yrs, Moses Zam ‘male’ aged 19yrs, and Benjamin Amni ‘male’ aged 21yrs all of North bank, Benue State without the consent of their parents and was conveying them to Lagos State before she was arrested.
He added that further Police investigation was extended to the Address given by the suspect in Lagos State and it was discovered that, their destination was a business premises that has been abandoned for several years.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP. Bola Longe has directed that, the case should be transferred to State criminal investigation department, Lafia for exhaustive investigation and unite the victims with their families. He further appealed to residents of the State to be wary of criminals who disguise as destiny helpers in order to perpetrate their evil agenda.
